Walker, Guy Morrison

Word has been received from Laurel, Miss of the death of Guy Morrison Walker, a graduate of DePauw University in 1890 and a benefactor of the school.  Mr. Walker, according to word received here by Dr. Henry B. Longden, professor emeritus of German and former vice president and acting president of DePauw died in his sleep on Saturday Aug 4.  He was 75 years old. Mr. Walker was a retired lawyer and financial expert of NY City.  He received his bachelor’s degree from DePauw in 1890, his bachelor of laws degree in 1891 and his master’s degree in 1896.  In 1891 he married Minnie L. Royse of Terre Haute, a DePauw graduate in 1890.  During his lifetime Mr. Walker established the Guy Morrison Walker lectureships, the Walker Cup and the Walker collection of 200 volumes dealing with China in the DePauw Library.  He endowed the “Horizon Lectures” at DePauw by the gift of $11,000.  The lectures are intended to lift the “mental horizons” of students and faculty at DePauw.  Each year the income from this fund brings distinguished lectures to the campus. Each year the Walker Cup is presented at commencement time to the member of the senior class who is regarded as having done most for DePauw during his or her college course. The cup is awarded by vote of the entire senior class.
